Lionesses End Campaign in Style as Alphas Maintain Top-Four Push

A Nine-Goal Finale, a Captain's Winner and Five Matches to Go. Another Memorable Weekend for the Pride.

Kahawa Pride FC wrapped up another eventful weekend with the Lionesses bringing the curtain down on their FKF Nairobi East Women's Regional League campaign in emphatic fashion, while the Alphas collected three valuable points from two challenging league fixtures to remain fourth in the FKF Nairobi East Regional League standings.

The Lionesses produced their biggest win of the season for the second consecutive weekend, humiliating Fearless Ladies FC 8-1 away to finish the campaign on a high. Meanwhile, the Alphas suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat away to Embakasi United before bouncing back with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mentors FC.

The Lionesses concluded their impressive league campaign with another attacking masterclass, putting eight goals past Fearless Ladies FC to secure their biggest victory of the season once again.

Grace Njeri got the scoring underway just five minutes into the match before Purity Wanjiku doubled the advantage two minutes later after being set up by Susan Nafula.

Grace then grabbed her second of the afternoon in the 22nd minute from a Rebecca Munasio assist before Neddy Atieno made it 4-0 three minutes later after excellent work from Purity Wanjiku.

Fearless Ladies pulled one goal back in the 30th minute, but the response from the Lionesses was immediate.

Munasio restored the four-goal cushion two minutes later after being played through by Christine Imbenzi before adding her second just before halftime from Margaret Njeri's assist.

The second half followed the same script.

Neddy scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 60th minute after a pass from Munasio before Grace Njeri completed her hat-trick in the 71st minute, finishing off another well-worked move created by Nafula.

The comprehensive victory saw the Lionesses finish the season in second place behind champions Kahawa Queens.

It also capped off a remarkable campaign in which only Kariobangi Sharks Women and Kahawa Queens managed to defeat the Pride, while Buruburu Soccer Academy were the only other side to take points after holding the Lionesses to a draw.

Every other opponent fell to the Pride.

Following a disrupted start to the season that included multiple team withdrawals, the Lionesses mounted an impressive resurgence, strengthened by key mid-season signings that transformed the squad into one of the league's most dangerous attacking sides.

Alphas Bounce Back After Embakasi Setback

The Alphas faced one of their busiest weekends of the season with two league matches in successive days.

Saturday's trip to second-placed Embakasi United ended in disappointment as the hosts claimed a narrow 1-0 victory courtesy of a goal just before halftime.

Despite several tactical changes after the break, Kahawa Pride were unable to find an equaliser, bringing an end to the club's impressive 11-match unbeaten run in the league.

However, the response came immediately.

Less than 24 hours later, the Alphas returned home determined to avenge their 3-0 first-leg defeat to Mentors FC.

The first half proved tightly contested, with neither side able to break the deadlock before the interval.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 56th minute when captain Lewis Mwaniki found the back of the net with what proved to be the decisive goal.

The visitors searched for a way back into the contest, but Kahawa Pride remained disciplined defensively to secure all three points and complete the revenge mission.

The victory ensures the Alphas remain fourth in the FKF Nairobi East Regional League standings after 29 matches, having collected 53 points from 17 wins, five draws and seven defeats.

With five league matches still to play, the Alphas continue to build on a strong second half of the campaign after recovering from a difficult spell earlier in the season.

The current standings see Westlife United lead the table on 71 points, followed by Embakasi United on 63 and Kamongo FC on 56, with Kahawa Pride occupying fourth place.

While the Lionesses can now reflect on an encouraging campaign that ended with a runners-up finish, the Alphas' attention remains firmly fixed on the final five matches of the season.

Having responded positively to their first defeat in the past 12 games, the squad will be aiming to carry that momentum into the closing weeks as they look to finish the campaign as strongly as possible.

The Pride continues to fight until the very end.
